Our Story

About the County Line and the Owners.

I had only been here 3 years. I needed a job. I was 16. A friend said he worked at a restaurant called The County Line. I went and got hired. I was washing dishes the next day.  That was 1987.

Originally from Puerto Rico, I was not familiar with Texas BBQ. But the good folks running it and the flexible hours made it a great place to work.

The County Line paid the wages that I used to pay my college. I graduated from U of H with a History degree. But by then I had been promoted to management. I had done all the jobs. It had become a second home. The owners, Bruce Walcutt and Skeeter Miller became role models for me.

Then I met the love of my life, the only woman who could possibly be perfect for me. Tracy and I got married in 1996. Our first beautiful girl was born in 2000, Caitlyn, and was followed by just as beautiful a girl in 2003, Noelle. Through it all, The County Line, Skeeter and Bruce were always there.

In 2005 we took the step from employees to owners and we acquired The County Line at Cutten Rd., as a franchise.  The learning curve was very steep, and it continues to be. Now we have opened our first brand new store, The County Line on Lake Conroe. It has not been easy, it has not been cheap, but we would not have it any other way. As Frank Sinatra would have said, ‘ I did it my way!’

The rest of the story I hope has many years of happiness with my girls and Tracy.
